For cleaning and deodorizing active clothing
Synthetic base layers are designed to be worn next to the skin, providing user comfort by maintaining body temperature and controlling moisture. The fabrics used are highly wicking (they will spread moisture out over a large area), fast drying and breathable. It is therefore essential to maintain these properties when caring for base layers.

Synthetic sports clothes are fantastic for regulating your temperature and controlling body moisture, but over time a build up of bacteria and body oils can lead to them smelling. To keep activewear functioning properly, care must be taken when washing. Using conventional household detergents or fabric softeners can impair wicking properties by causing the fabric to retain moisture. This leads to reduced wicking capabilities and slow drying of the fabric. Additionally, odors will not be adequately removed, instead they are masked by perfumes which will fail quickly, leaving you with smelly clothes!

Wash your sports clothes when they start to smell…
Once your activewear has been used a few times and is starting to smell, wash it with Nikwax BaseWash to deodorize, freshen, soften, and enhance drying and cooling. Use this product to clean and deodorize fitness clothes, sports uniforms, gym wear, and socks to keep them in perfect condition.

Conventional household detergents and fabric softeners reduce the performance of your activewear…
Using conventional household detergents and fabric softeners will impair the wicking properties of active fabrics. Standard household detergents do not stop odors from building up in the fabric when in use. Conventional fabric softeners leave water-hating (hydrophobic) residues that will reduce the performance of the fabric, preventing it from spreading moisture and working to its maximum potential. Nikwax BaseWash outperforms conventional household detergents and fabric softeners at improving wicking, accelerating drying, and removing and preventing odor build up.

IMPORTANT: Use undiluted BaseWash® to treat stubborn stains before washing. Do not use with fabric softener. Do not use on waterproof clothing.

Front Loading Machine Wash:
1. Use 1.7fl oz/50ml.
2. Wash according to care label.

Top Loading Machine Wash:
1. After the machine has filled, add 3.5fl oz/100ml for a half load, 5fl oz/150ml for a full load.
2. Wash according to care label.


Nikwax BaseWash can also be applied by hand…

Hand Wash (use gloves):
1. Immerse item(s) in 2gal/7.5L of warm water in a laundry tub or sink.
2. Use 0.85fl oz/25ml.
3. Rinse 3 times in clean water.

Drying: Dry according to garment instructions.
